Long, narrow, spine-tipped leaves are arranges in a spiral and are sharply pointed. They reach up to 30 in. long, while the flowering stem may reach 40 in., bearing clusters of large, bell-shaped, sweet-smelling white flowers in the spring. Large banana-shaped fruit, which is described as tasting like sweet potatoes when roasted, range from 4 to 6 in. long. The Yucca was an important source of food and leaves for basket making to natives.
