Named for the unusual fragrance this plant emits after rain, the Creosote bush is the most drought-tolerant of all North American perennials. It can live for at least two years without water, but under normal conditions is evergreen and slow-growing to 8 by 6 feet tall and wide. With abundant water, it can reach up to 12 feet high. Its leaves are thick and coated with resin, allowing them to conserve water and dissipate heat. Its tiny flowers are yellow, developing into fuzzy seed capsules. This plant can live from 100-200 years.
