This tree is often planted where its clusters of white spring flowers, glossy green leaves, and reddish-purple fall foliage can be admired. It is fast-growing, reaching 20 ft. high by 20 ft. wide, and starts with a pyramid shape that changes as the tree matures into a broad canopy that provides good shade. Its dark green leaves, up to 3 in. long, sway in the breeze. Considered a thornless, ornamental pear, it produces small, inedible fruit.
