Leaf Size: Large
H: Deciduous

The stately Pawnee Pecan grows 40 ft. or more tall, with a trunk maturing to 4” in diameter.  Its pale gray-brown bark is rough and scaly. The tree forms a tall, rounded crown with fairly dense foliage. The leaves are compound, 10-20 inches long, with 11-16 leaflets on each one. The leaflets are 4-8 inches long, narrow, and pointed. Inconspicuous yellow-green flowers bloom from April to May, the females short and spikey and the males cascading. Soft-shelled nuts appear in clusters from the female flowers, each in a think green husk that splits into four sections. These nuts are edible and sweet and are ready to harvest 2-3 weeks earlier than most varieties.
