While the Southern Live Oak isn’t very tall, it has a dense, wide canopy that provides excellent shade. Well suited for desert conditions, where it holds its size to about 40 by 40 feet. Its heavy spreading branches twist and turn in interesting directions. The branches carry leaves year round, dropping some of the older ones in the spring. Mature trees also produce a small amount of acorns. The Live Oak can reach a majestic size, but holds to around 40 by 40 feet in the desert. This tree requires little maintenance.
