The dense upright form of this evergreen shrub is actually quite versatile in the landscape. It makes an excellent corner column or, planted in masse, a solid hedge or excellent privacy screen. It can also be easily pruned to shape as an attractive espalier. Inconspicuous flowers are followed by small, purple, edible fruits that have a pleasant taste to humans and are attractive to birds.
